Strawberry and Banana Soy Milkshake

DRIVE-THRU MILKSHAKES WITHOUT THE DRIVE-THRU

Strawberry and Banana Soy Milkshake

Everyone has that one friend that is as thin as a pencil but eats as if she/he has 7 stomachs. I can easily count 5 friends that fit this profile back home in Canada, but one in particular rules them all. The black hole inside him meant accompanying him to 24-hour drive-thrus for midnight dinners every once in a while. I remember ordering soy milkshakes, burgers and fries, then parking and eating in front of Costco while jamming to Rihanna and Beyoncé.

After travelling a little and living in Spain, I realized soy milkshakes are not so easy to come by (I’m looking at you Tommy Mel’s!). So, as you can imagine, I (and my blender) got to work one Saturday night. At midnight, I blasted Michael Jackson’s Thriller and sipped on this Strawberry and Banana Soy Milkshake.

Pear and Rum Muffins

BOTTOMS UP

Pear and Rum Muffins

My brother, Maaaa (aka. my mom) and I have been talking about making marijuana-induced baked goods for as long as Justin Trudeau and his peps in the Canadian parliament have been promising to legalize the plant. Maaaa says she would be willing to make marijuana breakfast muffins only when and if it’s legal because “I don’t want go to jail.”

In the meantime, I modified her pear muffins to be butterless and spiked with rum. I started with 2 tablespoons of rum, then 4, then 6, then, well then I forgot. I put 6 tablespoons in the recipe because it seems like a reasonable quantity. Certainly they would be better with marijuana but hey, “I don’t want go to jail.”
