Warm and Spiced Cider


The aroma of cider makes me nostalgic! It reminds me of cold evenings and friends back home in Canada. We use to pick up beer and cider from the Beer Store and the LCBO then head down to Lake Ontario to talk and laugh around a bonfire.

Imagine how crazy I went when I came across cider in a pop-up market the other day! El Chic Pop Up Market was here in Madrid, and housed a number of local artists, clothing designers and food lines. Sidra Cortina was one of them! Their cider comes from Asturias, the north of Spain, and is organic. If you know a thing or two about Spanish cider, then you know they like to pour it high above the glass and sometimes behind their back for the best taste. Here is a video!

The representatives at Sidra Cortina were very kind as they listened to me ramble about Canada and how I like to drink cider – warm and with a touch of cinnamon! I bought a bottle of Cortina’s cider and hurried home to prepare Hot Cider.

Total time: 5 minutes

Makes: 2 cups


  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cinnamon stick


    Pour the cider and nutmeg in a small pot and heat over low heat for 3 - 5 minutes. When done, pour into a mug and add a cinnamon stick.
